Case Study # 35

Jetsoft Development was hired to work with Olympus America Incorporated.

The Problem

Olympus has been in the digital camera market for some time and had developed a small printer for consumers to easily print their images from home, at a reasonable cost.  They had a current Windows driver, but needed a MAC driver.

Our Solution

Olympus only had an incomplete specification document that they could provide for us, we reversed engineered some of the printer commands and then developed them into a CUPS printer driver.

Follow Up Jobs:

After completing the printer drive, Olympus realized that the color the printer was outputting was unacceptable. They contacted us for a follow job to do a ColorSync/ICC color profile. We did a profile from densitometer readings and then tweaked it further to better match screen colors. This new MAC driver had better color output than their current Windows driver, and worked in the same way as their Windows driver.
